Cornerstone Bible Church (CBC) held its inaugural service on February 14, 1999. Forty (40) people, many college students or freshly out of college, attended CBC at that time. Elder Bob Han was the only member with children (two at the time) and one of the few members who was married.

About nine years later, we typically have 220 or more people in attendance on Sundays. Many of our members are college students or recent college alumni, but we also have a growing population of young families. Elder Bob Han now has twice as many children, and the total number of children in the church seems to grow each month.

Cornerstone's central purposes are to exalt God, edify the saints, and evangelize the lost. “Cornerstone” refers to our Lord Jesus Christ. (Ephesians 2:20) Our name reminds us that He is the Chief Cornerstone of His Church – That He is the most important Person in our lives! Therefore, as a church we seek to be completely submitted to Him. Our identity is found in Him and in Him alone. The elders of Cornerstone Bible Church are committed to having His Word reign supreme in all that we do as a church family. We seek that in our teaching, leadership, philosophy of ministry and in our personal lives, He will have the Pre-eminence.

We have various ministries that, by God's grace, we seek to use to accomplish our purpose. All our ministries aim to exalt God. Some ministries more specifically focus on exalting God by equipping the saints, others by serving the saints, and others by evangelizing the lost.

Sunday's message is the highlight of our week and forms the core of our church's equipping ministry. Edification of the saints does not stop after our first hour of Sunday morning worship though. During second hour, the body at Cornerstone breaks up to attend different equipping classes. Two times during the year, we have rotating courses covering the New Testament, Old Testament, Theology Proper, Christian Living, and more.

During second hour, brothers and sisters may also be edified through other ministries/classes, including Fundamentals of the Faith (introduction to core Christian doctrines), Pillars (for married couples), Evangelism Training, Cornerstone Bible Fellowship (for college students), and I Peter 3 – Unequally Yolked (for Christian women with unbelieving husbands). The growth in our need for meeting space has corresponded to our growth in size and our growth in second hour equipping ministries.

CBC also has a number of service ministries that exist to meet various needs in our growing church, especially on Sunday mornings. Welcoming, Finance, Audio, Publishing, Administration, Setup, and Pebbles (toddlers) serve vital roles in the church, particularly on Sundays. A church building would help some of these ministries by providing space that could reduce task-related workloads that exist because of our limited access to our current Sunday worship location. A more permanent building would allow various servants to better focus on Sunday worship and fellowship.

By God's grace, Cornerstone families have been fruitful and have multiplied over the years. We are thankful for the many blessings the Lord has given us with each new child at our church. These children have presented many opportunities for both serving and equipping ministries. Currently, there are 40-50 children in attendance each Sunday. Depending on their age, they may by in Infants, Pebbles, Children's, or Youth Group. Each of these ministries has members who faithfully serve each week. Over the past few years, the need for space and help in these ministries has grown quickly – and, through God's continued blessing, it looks like these needs will continue to increase.

Our ministries outside of Sundays exist predominantly in the homes of various leaders and members. As noted in the “Questions and Answers” portion of this site, a building with greater access will allow for the elders, pastors, and shepherds to minister to the members of CBC more effectively. Our prayer is that a building will bring more opportunities to edify and equip the saints of Cornerstone.

Within the church body, ministry is primarily focused on building up and serving the church members. Outside the church body, the focus of Cornerstone's ministry is on evangelism. To evangelize the lost, Cornerstone has supported missionaries in Ireland, the Czech Republic and Asia. In addition, we have sent short-term missions teams to Ireland, England, the Czech Republic and different locations in Asia.

More recently, we have focused on missions here at home or close to home by sending teams out in Orange County and Mexico. A focus on missions at home makes the value of a church building more apparent. A relatively permanent and more usable church building in a local community would be a valuable resource for long-term ministry and outreach.

The Lord has blessed Cornerstone immensely over the past nine years with more brothers and sisters in Christ. Cornerstone's primary focus has not been to see attendance grow though. The Lord has blessed our church with more brothers and sisters not through seeker-focused programs, but through preaching, ministry, and members with a fierce commitment to the authority and teaching of God's Word. If the Lord wills that we be here for another nine years, exalting God, edifying the saints, and evangelizing the lost will remain at the core of our purpose as a church whether we are at Bell Intermediate or elsewhere.

CBC 9th Anniversary Service: February 10, 2008

Ephesians 2:19-21 - So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord.
